Day trips from Seville

8 h route4 stopsBest: Córdoba in spring. In summer it’s even hotter thereUpdated July 2026

IN SHORT

With the high-speed train, Córdoba is 45 minutes away and Cádiz a little over an hour: there is no better base in Andalusia. And by car or bus, the white villages and Jerez, the city of wine and horses, open up.

If you can only do one, Córdoba, no argument: the Mezquita-Catedral is one of the most astonishing visits in Europe and it’s a half day. If you come in summer, beware: Córdoba is even hotter than Seville.

The route, stop by stop

4 STOPS
  1. 01

    Córdoba

⏱ Día completoHigh-speed train from Santa Justa, 45 minutes

The Mezquita-Catedral gathers the strangest and most beautiful of Andalusia: a forest of 850 columns with red-and-white horseshoe arches, the most important mosque in the West, and in the middle, wedged in by the Christians in the 16th century, an entire cathedral.

Around it, the Jewish quarter with its whitewashed patios and the Roman bridge over the Guadalquivir.

In May, the Patios Festival opens private houses: if you’re here for it, it’s among the best things to see in Spain.

  2. 02

    Cádiz

⏱ Día completoTrain from Santa Justa, a little over an hour

Founded by the Phoenicians some 3,000 years ago, it’s the oldest continuously inhabited city in Western Europe, on a peninsula with sea on three sides: a white, salty old town with genuine urban beaches.

Climb the Tavira Tower, climb the golden cathedral and eat fried fish in the La Viña quarter.

February’s Carnival is the best in Spain and something completely different from what you’d expect.

  3. 03

    Jerez de la Frontera

⏱ Medio díaTrain from Santa Justa, roughly an hour

The city of sherry: the century-old bodegas run tours and you taste fino, manzanilla and oloroso where they were invented. It’s also the home of the Cartujano horse and has the Royal Andalusian School of Equestrian Art.

And it is, with Seville, one of flamenco’s cradles: the Santiago quarter has peñas where the singing is real.

It’s a half day that pairs well with Cádiz if you’re driving.

  4. 04

    The white villages

⏱ Día completoBetter by car: buses reach them but tie you down

The Cádiz mountains perch one white village after another on the rock. The most famous is Ronda, split in two by a 100-metre gorge crossed by an 18th-century bridge: spectacular, and packed.

Arcos de la Frontera and Grazalema are quieter and just as beautiful.

They work better by car, because by bus you lose half the day to journeys and timetables.
