From Belgrade airport to the centre

3 stopsUpdated July 2026

IN SHORT

You get the taxi voucher before you exit, and that’s the whole piece of advice. At Nikola Tesla airport there are four electronic kiosks issuing a flat-fare voucher: three are in the baggage reclaim hall and one in the arrivals hall. You choose your zone, there are six, the machine gives you a slip with the price, you hand it to the driver and he’s obliged to charge only that. It covers up to four passengers with luggage.

And here’s why: if you walk out to the kerb without the voucher, you enter a negotiation with whoever approaches you, which is exactly this airport’s classic scam and it has worked for decades. With the slip in your hand there’s no conversation to have. Get it while you wait for your bag, which is when it costs you nothing.

    The taxi voucher

    ⏱ 25-35 min

The system works well and almost nobody arrives knowing about it. There are four electronic kiosks at the airport, and the key is where they are: three in the baggage reclaim hall, that is, before you cross the door, and one in the arrivals hall. You pick your destination zone from a map, the city is divided into six, and out comes a voucher with the closed price printed on it.

That slip is a contract: the driver is obliged to take you for that amount and can’t charge you anything else, whether there’s one of you or four and whatever luggage you have. Downtown is about eighteen kilometres and between twenty-five and thirty-five minutes.

Get it while you wait for your bag and walk out with it in your hand: anyone approaching you outside offering a “better” taxi is offering to charge you three times as much. This is the advice that saves the most money in the whole of Belgrade.

    The A1 minibus

    ⏱ 40 min

The airport’s express shuttle leaves every half hour and reaches Trg Slavija, the big square in the centre, in about forty minutes, with one stop on the way. It’s the direct no-taxi option: it has luggage space and it doesn’t wander through neighbourhoods.

Slavija is a hub with trams and buses going everywhere, and it’s a quarter of an hour’s walk from the old town, so if your hotel is central you can arrive dragging a case or take a short city taxi.

It’s considerably cheaper than the airport voucher and it only makes sense travelling light: with two big suitcases at eleven at night, take the taxi.

  3. 03

    Route 72

    ⏱ 40-60 min

The 72 runs as an ordinary city bus, not a shuttle: it leaves the airport and reaches Zeleni Venac, next to the centre, in between forty minutes and an hour depending on traffic, stopping all the way. It costs a city bus fare, which is small change.

It’s the option for anyone travelling with a rucksack and no hurry, and there’s nothing wrong with it except the obvious: it’s a service bus with people going to work, no hold, and at rush hour you’ll stand with your case between your legs.

With light luggage in daylight it works perfectly and drops you beside the old town. With big suitcases it’s a bad idea and the taxi voucher costs little.

Frequently asked

How do you take a taxi at Belgrade airport?

By getting the flat-fare voucher from one of the four electronic kiosks BEFORE you exit: three are in the baggage reclaim hall and one in the arrivals hall. You pick your zone from six, out comes a slip with the closed price, and the driver is obliged to charge only that, whether there’s one of you or four. Without the voucher, you’re negotiating.

Is there a bus from Belgrade airport to the centre?

Two. The A1 express minibus leaves every half hour and reaches Slavija square in about forty minutes, with luggage space. And city route 72 reaches Zeleni Venac in forty to sixty minutes for small change, but it’s a service bus with no hold: light luggage only.
